Who We Are

The South Florida Friends of Classical Music was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2011 to encourage and support performances of classical music in South Florida. The Organization comprises 5 different programs, The Miami International Music Academy, The Miami Music Festival from around the World, Summer in Florence™, The Miami Chamber Players & The Teresa Carreño International Master Piano Competition.

Our place in the South Florida fine arts community encompasses more than just fine chamber music, top educational programs, world-class performances, international competition winners, and classical music meetups. We are proud to share this wonderful musical experience with younger generations by arranging free musicianship and master classes for students admitted in our Music Academy, and by providing free and varied event tickets to students at selected local high schools and colleges.

Humanities

South Florida Friends of Classical Music regularly hosts workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities dedicated to the celebration of the Humanities. The organization aims to demonstrate the relevance of the Humanities as a complement to the core of music, the programming and content of two of our programs centered in the advancement and understanding of the different cultures of the world. By exploring the music of a particular region, its culture, and its folklore, the Miami Music Festival from around the World comes together in a series that is uniquely diverse. In addition, SUMMER IN FLORENCE™ includes Arts & Humanities courses as part of the main curriculum, such as Architecture & Art History, and Renaissance Culture & Society.

The multi-cultural lectures/workshops strive to give audience members an understanding of the pivotal events, celebrity figures, central ideas and defining worldviews that have shaped major episode in cultural history.

Educational Outreach

South Florida Friends of Classical Music is committed to educational outreach, engaging both local and visiting artists to provide residencies and master classes to our younger students. The accepted students of the Miami International Music Academy in conjunction with renown South Florida Institutions have the opportunity to study different levels of musicianship classes, free of charge, and several students receive scholarships to pursue music education. Accepted piano students in The Academy are able to study college-level music theory classes and perform in piano masterclasses with world-class instructors.

The Miami Music Festival from around the World encourages and supports the musical heritage of countries around the globe. The annual Festival features academic, traditional, and folk music from diverse cultures performed by acclaimed world-class artists. SUMMER IN FLORENCE™ is for college students and professionals, interested adults and seniors of any professional background. We have an Open Admission policy and invite everybody to participate in our language, music, fine arts, and culture programs in Florence.

The Miami Chamber Players invite professional musicians from all around South Florida to perform chamber music concerts, giving them the opportunity to perform and be heard in different concerts and venues. Masterclasses with the artists are also arranged during the season. The Teresa Carreño International Master Piano Competition promotes the name of Teresa Carreño and encourages an appreciation for her work as well as other Latin-American composers. By making the Competition available in its entirety on the internet, the Organization extends its outreach to viewers/listeners in every corner of the globe.

South Florida Friends of Classical Music is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Organization boasts either free or low-cost tickets, making events accessible to all who wish to attend, many of which are family friendly. Your support is hugely appreciated.
